Breathe 2 Relax, by Scott Williams
Breathe 2 Relax is an app created by the National Center for Telehealth & Technology, an agency of the Department of Defense in the United States. Though the app was originally designed for US military, veterans, and their families it is available for free on both IOS and Android.
Breathe 2 Relax teaches diaphragmatic breathing. This is a deep breathing technique that is accomplished by contracting the diaphragm. One focuses on expanding one’s belly rather than the chest. The app includes a basic video to teach the technique and also a guided breathing exercise. Users can customize the lengths of the breaths they take.
Deep breathing exercises are useful in combating anxiety because they increase the flow of oxygen to the brain, helping to enable clearer thought. The practice of deep breathing can also be helpful in allowing a person to slow down and relax.
