Coming Out Day

Coming Out Day is celebrated each year on October 11th.

About the Day:

It was founded in 1988 and it recognizes members of the LGBTQ2+ community and the process of coming out.

Self-disclosure about sexual orientation and/or gender identity is a unique and personal experience. Take a look at our pages on Coming Out for Kids & Teens and Coming Out as an Adult.

Ideas to celebrate this day in your classroom or GSA:

  • Have your students find the top ten influencers or celebrities that came out in the last year or last decade
  • Watch videos of coming out stories from I’m From Driftwood or from Huffington Post
  • Learn about the history of the day from Huffington Post
