Hello from our new Community Engagement Lead, by David Da Silva

Hi, I’m David Da Silva, and you don’t know me yet, but you will.

A fun thing to know about me is that if I was an animal I would like to think that I would be a deer as they are patient, gentle and graceful, however I would most likely be a goat as they can be quite vocal, stubborn and ready to go on adventures. I think these are all important qualities to possess as the Community Engagement Lead.

I identify as a First Generation Queer Canadian cis man and use this perspective in a lot of the work I have done and continue to do. I graduated McMaster University with a Bachelors of Arts in Anthropology (definitely nothing to do with the study of ants) and a postgraduate certificate in Concurrent Disorders. I have extensive experience working with youth, mental health and addictions and working with the 2SLGBTQIA+ community. I have been in a variety of positions focusing on providing support to individuals and families, engaging and building community capacity, and delivering workshops and trainings.

I am very excited to be going on this new adventure, to vocalize my support of the inclusive work being done with the 2SLGBTQIA+ community that is already happening in the Waterloo region. The community has helped shape who I am today and I want to be able to use my experience to give back to the community and to continue advocating for more inclusive spaces. Outside of this role, I like to spend my time cuddling with my cats, playing video games, and exploring nature.
