Stantec STEM Awards 2020, By OK2BME Staff

We are proud to announce that two local LGBTQ2+ youth have each been awarded a $1,250 scholarship from our partners at Stantec. Amir Abd El Halim, Vice President and Regional Leader for Stantec’s Ontario West region, joined us on Thursday, July 9, 2020 at our virtual Camp Queerantine to present the awards to KCI’s Annabella Cairns, and Rachel Routly from Centre Wellington District High School.

The awards were given to LGBTQ2+ identified students who plan on pursuing STEM in post-secondary education. Applicants had to:

  • Be finishing grade 12 this June
  • Be attending college/university in 2021
  • Be registered in a STEM (science, technology, engineering, math) program
  • Ideally be a leader in their community

Applicants had to submit a short essay telling us how they support the rainbow community, and about their future plans in STEM.

Thank you to everyone who applied, and congratulations to Annabella and Rachel! A big thanks to our partners at Stantec for supporting OK2BME and funding these awards.
