Transgender Day of Visibility 2020, By Washington Silk

Dear OK2BMERS,

Happy Transgender and Non-Binary International Day of Visibility! Today is a day to celebrate the existence, resistance, history and community of trans folks all around the world. In today’s climate, obviously we cannot connect in person to celebrate, create safe havens, build community and chill together. So I thought I would share few of my favourite trans artists today instead to celebrate our power and visibility!

Flamingo Rampant, a local publisher that is producing feminist, racially-diverse, LGBTQ2 positive children’s books, in an effort to bring visibility and positivity to the reading landscape of children everywhere. They are doing live readings every single morning at 10:30 EST! You can check it out here on their Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/flamingorampant

Sophie Labelle who is the artist behind Assigned Male at Birth. Their comics are always thoughtful and engaging. I highly recommend checking them out!  You can check them out on Tumbler https://assignedmale.tumblr.com/ or check out their shop here: https://www.serioustransvibes.com/

Rae Spoon! We were so lucky to have them at our GSA Conference and fundraiser last year and very sad to hear of their recent diagnosis of cervical cancer. We wish them very best in their recovery! We will be sending them good vibes during their live stream performance April 2. You can watch and donate to support Rae on their FB: https://www.facebook.com/raespoonpage

Buddies in Bad Times has launched a 9 part performance series, Queer, Far, Wherever You Are (every weekday at 5pm) featuring queer artists sharing burlesque, drag, poetry, and more. See the whole lineup here and tonight you can check out the famous Gay Jesus!

Hope everyone is staying safe, socially connected but physically distant!
